Port of Portland Police Officers are state certified peace officers who provide law enforcement services primarily at the Portland International Airport and surrounding areas, in compliance with state and federal laws and in support of federal aviation regulations.
The police department consists of 61 sworn personnel and 4 non-sworn staff. In addition to uniform patrol, sworn assignments include detectives, canine handlers (explosive detection), bomb technician and task force positions. Our primary mission, as a proactive law enforcement agency, is to provide for the safety and security of the traveling public, with emphasis on preventing potential terrorist attacks on the aviation industry.
To be considered as a Lateral transfer applicant, you must be currently certified or eligible to be certified as a Police Officer in the State of Oregon without attending the Basic Police Academy AND who have a minimum of three years of experience as a State Certified Police Officer.
NOTE: Applicants who are under investigation at the time of the background investigation will not be considered eligible for employment.
SALARY INFORMATION:
Salary is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and years of continuous service. Lateral Officers are credited with previous years of service for purposes of placement on the salary scale up to the top scale with a minimum of 5 years of service. All required uniforms and equipment are supplied by the police department.
Contract Salary Scale Hourly
3 years: $42.516
4 years: $45.000
5 years+: $47.694
NOTE: In addition to the base salary, officers will receive DPSST Premium pay if the officer possess DPSST Intermediate Certification (3%) or Advanced Certification (6%).
