Job Description

*This is a hybrid role based out of our HQ in Beaverton, OR. In-office expectation is 3 days a week*.

The Design Director at SOREL will lead a team of industrial designers across footwear categories of men's, women's, and kids. This individual is responsible for leading the concept, visual identity, and visual execution of product design. You will work in partnership with product management, product development, and color/materials design. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the fashion and athletic marketplace, and extensive footwear knowledge across various product types and constructions. A strong sense and eye for identifying trends and a proven ability to translate high-level inspiration into relevant designs is expected. This candidate has the ability to know where the consumer is heading with an informed understanding of what is now and what is next.The Design Director - Industrial Design oversees and drives organizational fundamentals that respect the product calendar and industrial design expectations. This leader is motivational and clear to the Design team and collaborates with cross-functional departments across the brand.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • In-depth knowledge in all facets of concept, design, and execution

  • Passion for storytelling in seasonal creative concept and bringing to life across product tiers and types

  • Experiencing traveling to and working with manufacturing teams and partners

  • The ability to apply trend forecast and influence product POV during development process using both market information and Brand Filters

  • A strong creative POV under the established SOREL position and collaborative spirit when interfacing with Brand teams creative

  • Lead product design in concept to creation through line art, two dimensional, blueprints and RP reviews. Ensure continuity of unique brand distinction and identity

  • Lead designers on prioritization of current and seasonal initiatives to meet creation calendar dates.

  • Create a team defined by rich talent, deep and capable bench strength focused on leadership development and strong succession plans

  • Merge fashion and technical details. Be a creative problem solver

YOU HAVE

  • Bachelors degree in Product Design or equivalent professional experience.

  • 10 years' experience in Product Design

  • 5 years experience managing and developing a design organization

  • Expertise in leveraging Brand DNA and Global marketplace insight.

  • Strong pulse on sport, fashion, and culture trends

  • Technical understanding in footwear constructions and manufacturing process.

  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience working on multiple projects across several seasons (season overlap)

  • Consistent track record of success at other globally recognized footwear brands.

  • Strong understanding of consumer mindset.

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally on occasion.
