Working in Automation & Electrification Service, Process Automation Energy Industries (PAEN), your tasks will include proposing engineering solutions to meet customers needs and utilizing feedback to identify improvement opportunities. Regional Technical Advisor's (RTA) effectiveness necessitates initiative, creativity and drive. The function provides leadership to work toward improving the entire service organization. In addition to their individual efforts, the national team orientation allows the RTAs to share information and accelerate new technology deployment to the US (United States) Field Service organization. This allows the entire service organization to benefit from the technical strengths of individual members. An RTA works independently and consults with other staff to install, modify, test or repair ABB products and equipment. They represent the Company as a consultant for both internal and external customers, resolving highly complex technical and business issues while promoting and maintaining good customer relations and safeguarding ABB's interests. You will be required to work independently and as part of a team based on customer/contract requirements.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and ownership of highly complex and diverse engineering activities and related analyses associated with major field projects and provide technical advice to customers and less experienced field service team members. Work with field service team and customers to drive issues to resolution
  • Mentor and develop field service skills such as: technical expertise, product certification, customer management and business objectives. This requires close relationships with field service team members and various Company departments to achieve an effective and cohesive team. Work with Training and Technical Support to enhance and deliver training for certification objectives. Prepare or provide input for proposals and provide technical support for sales team
  • Represent ABB at conferences with customers, consulting engineers, contractors and vendors. Provide technical and business advice involving major projects and/or highly complex problems. Evaluate various types of information to determine causes of problems or malfunctions. Coordinate or recommend repairs or other means to achieve resolution and prevent recurrence. Propose to customers, ways to optimize their operations by such means as utilizing more efficient, state of the art equipment and contracting for maintenance and inspection services
  • Develop customer contacts and, in conjunction with other support groups, establish strategies for obtaining new business and meeting financial objectives. Prepare or provide input for proposals and provide technical support for sales teams
  • Field service assignments involve adapting to varying conditions at customer facilities while operating within estimated resources and ensuring quality. Requires decisive actions involving highly complex technical matters to eliminate or minimize adverse impact, ensure quality and operate within budget
  • Requires strong communications and negotiations skills and ability to coordinate activities. Requires ability to adjust to revised priorities and unforeseen problems at customer facilities while meeting tight schedules Involves considerable travel and/or location at customer locations and being on call. Often work non standard schedules at off site locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions
Your background

  • Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Automation, OR a Process Control related degree
  • Minimum 2+years of relevant experience or a special combination of education (including military experience) and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments will be considered.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, software, process automation, networking, cyber security, and ABB 800xA, Harmony or Symphony Plus Distributed Control Systems is a plus. Additional formal training will be provided to augment existing knowledge.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed to accommodate the numerous customer responsibilities.
  • Must have exceptional troubleshooting skills, a demonstrated commitment to excellence, effective communication, problem solving skills, teamwork, technical orientation, customer focus, and a professional attitude.
  • Applicants must be located in the Western US and relocation will be provided if needed.
  • Speak fluent English and have a valid driver's license
  • Willing to travel up to 85% domestic and overnight travel, occasional international travel required
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
