Job Title: Vancouver Export Terminal Electrician

Job Classification: Full Time

Hours: The export terminal is a 24x7 operation and will include a rotating dayshift and nightshift work schedule.

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the installation and maintenance of electrical wiring, fixtures, and systems within the facility. The export terminal is a 24x7 operation and will include a rotating work schedule. This position will be required to maintain a positive and forthright attitude that promotes teamwork and conducts themselves in a professional and favorable manner.

Electricians are responsible for ensuring that their work is conducted in accordance with relevant codes. Also responsible for safeguarding all work is installed in a clean and safe manner that will not present harm or danger to employees or the public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using testing equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Responsible for the connection of wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • When work has been completed, must inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advises Management on continued operation of equipment and when it could become hazardous.
  • Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Must have at least a rudimentary knowledge of PLC programming, industrial conveyance safety devices and interlocking.
  • Troubleshoots motor controls and PLCs.
  • Provides preventative maintenance.
  • Installs and repairs electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures.
  • Installs conduits and pipes for electrical wires and cables.
  • Ensures all wiring complies with electrical codes.
  • Installs circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connects wiring to them.
  • Connects electrical systems to provide electricity, where needed.
  • Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation.
  • Inspects electrical systems to determine if repairs are needed.
  • Replaces conduit and wiring as needed.
  • Replaces circuit breakers as needed.
Qualifications
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Scheduled to meet production requirements in a 24 hour / 7 day a week business. Schedule may include some nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Completion of formal apprenticeship and valid WA Electrical license required.
  • PLC and control experience preferred.
  • Must be member of Local IBEW or will be required to join upon hire.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills in conjunction with good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment - both in proximity and practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and follow a plan layout so electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and codes can be installed.
  • Must be able to utilize a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
  • Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring.
  • Must be physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits.
  • Asked to be able to have prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders/scaffolding.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas in English by means of the spoken word and written format.
  • This position can be physically strenuous from time to time. Exposure to grain dust and ability to work in this environment is required. You will be expected to be able to work in tight and confined spaces, walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, grip, grasp, push, and pull various tools and equipment. May be required to ride a belt lift and occasionally work at significant heights with requisite balance and equilibrium. Ability to frequently lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally more. This job will require the ability to ascend/descend ladders.
  • Personal protective equipment, including hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and respiratory protection and ear protection are required.
  • Must be computer literate with proven ability in the use of spreadsheets, database, and word processing software applications within a Windows-based operating environment.
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies, and memo, and communicate clearly with your coworkers and supervisors.
  • Must be able to make decisions and work independently, and detail oriented.
  • Vision that permits close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. When grading grain, the ability to identify and distinguish colors is also important.
  • Ability to detect odors and the ability to understand and discern safety warning systems.
  • This is a physical job that includes both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather/temperatures.
  • Flexible with work hours - must be prepared to receive phone calls and respond to company-related needs at irregular times.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
