GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Materials Physicist will be responsible for leading optical, electrical, and other materials characterization work on semiconductor materials and devices; for developing improved understanding of the relationships between crystal growth, processing and physical properties; and for interfacing with customers/partners on development of new semiconductor-related applications. The Materials Physicist works closely with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technicians in an interactive environment to establish and improve engineering and production manufacturing capability.

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Physics or another closely-related discipline, or B.S./M.S. plus at least 5 years of research experience.
  • 2+ years' experience and expertise in characterization of semiconductor-related materials, optics, and/or device physics.
  • 2+ years' experience working with semiconductor applications preferred.
  • Experience with simple coding (e.g., Python, C++, VBA, etc.) desirable.
  • ITAR eligibility is required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED.
4-year degree plus PhD in Engineering or related field.
4+ years' of related professional experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently designs experiments, metrology methods, and instruments related to gallium nitride (GaN) and related semiconductor materials; performs optical, electrical, and other materials characterization of semiconductor materials and semiconductor devices; writes simple code (e.g., Python, C++, VBA, etc.) to process data; develops measurement procedures.
  • Interprets measurements, evaluates experiments, provides technical consultation for colleagues, and documents and communicates results.
  • Proposes, develops, evaluates improved methods for crystal growth and/or materials processing.
  • Participates in and/or leads technical discussions with customers.
  • Takes ownership of projects and manages results from cradle to grave with guidance from Engineering Manager.
  • Prepares and refines work instructions and other associated process documentation; trains technicians.
  • Works independently.
  • Adapts to changing priorities and schedules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay range: $92k - $110k
