THE POSITION


Washington County's Sheriff's Office is currently seeking an Evidence Officer to join the team! Currently, we are accepting applications for an Evidence Officer I or an Evidence Officer II. Both positions are a part of the Evidence Officer Series meaning the Sheriff's Office can hire at the level needed. Washington County's Evidence Unit processes and maintains approximately 100,000 pieces of physical evidence and over 200,000 pieces of digital evidence annually. In this position you will maintain, and document evidence processed by the Sheriff's Office and other public safety agencies, as well as transport and recover collected evidence from crime scenes.


As an Evidence Officer, an eye for details, organizational skills, and great communication is key. This position is built around accurate record keeping and inventory control, in addition to report writing, maintaining logs and testifying in court. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with basic computer programs such as Word, Excel, inventory databases, and able to use bar code readers. They must establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors. This position may be required to respond to crime scenes and remain calm and rational in these routine and non-routine situations.

Evidence Officer I is an entry level position in the property and evidence unit.
($27.29/hr. - $34.91/hr.)
Evidence Officer II is an experienced lateral position in the property and evidence unit.
($30.89/hr. - $39.46/hr.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPEREIENCE:
Evidence Officer I:

  • One (1) year of experience working with law enforcement, preferably in the preservation and custody of evidence, or electronic inventory control; OR
  • One (1) year of training and experience in property inventory control and recordkeeping.
Evidence Officer II:
  • Two (2) years of experience working with law enforcement, preferably in the preservation and custody of evidence, or electronic inventory control; OR
  • Two (2) years of training and experience in property inventory control and recordkeeping.
ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass background investigation and be free of felony convictions.
  • Must be able to work irregular hours and respond to crimes scenes during off duty hours.

  7. Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
